First CTF “Escuela de CTFs@UZ” – course 2023-2024 (Nov 3, 2023)

Context

On November 3, 2023, the Escuela de CTFs@UZ held its fourth CTF (Capture The Flag) event, the first CTF in the course 2023/2024. It was a 2-hour hacking event in which participants had to solve technical challenges that required knowledge from various disciplines. The participants had to cooperate in teams of up to 2 members, although individual teams were also allowed. Both types of teams performed quite well!

Additionally, we allowed two kind of teams in this event: juniors and seniors. We consider as junior teams the new people enrolled in “Escuela de CTFs@UZ” (in this academic year) and as senior teams the people that participated last year with us in “Escuela de CTFs@UZ” (course 2022-2023).

Post-Event Notes (from the Organization)

The event was a success from our point of view. We had a total of 17 participants, divided into 4 junior teams and 5 senior teams. During the event itself we all enjoyed the experience of facing and solving problems (both the participants and the organization!).

The Results

We prepared a series of entry-level, beginner-friendly challenges for our participants to solve.

During the competition, we published a set of challenges spread across various categories such as: Binary Exploitation, Web, Networking, Forensics, OSINT, Crypto, Steganography, and Misc.
